CAR stands united with the Black Lives Matter movement
against racism and social injustice.

While the field of autism research has been largely focused on early development and childhood for the past decade, the majority of our lives is spent as adults, and the field is challenged to meet the needs of a generation of adults diagnosed with ASD.

Recent studies estimate the cost of care for autism greatly increases later in life.  While there is government support for educational and clinical services for youth up to age 21, there is little financial assistance for the cost of care afterwards.

Through our partnership with the University of Pennsylvania, CAR is conducting research focused on the transition to adulthood, quality of life, and predictors of success. By integrating our autism program across CHOP and Penn we can seamlessly study individuals from birth well into old age, to understand the needs of individuals with ASD at different ages, and differences in their life course.
